Country #25 China

My friend who is studying in China, and who also happens to be the President of the stamp and coin club at my university, send me this lovely postcard and some cute Chinese stamps. In return I sent him some postcards when I was in Europe. So excited to add this country to my collection! 😀

stamp country #18 Pakistan

27Hello everyone 🙂 I am beyond excited to tell you about my new addition! One of my friends whom I met in Australia but who is originally from Pakistan, sent me some stamps when she was back home. It is so wonderful to add Pakistan to my collection, as the 18th country since I started collecting in June of 2014. I’m so happy to see the continued growth in my collection!

28These definitives from 1994, depicting Jinnah, are my favourites. I love how intricate the stamp is, incorporating design and history.

I went into a stamp shop the other day, and as I was looking through their selection of mint-unhinged stamps from all different countries, I found that I will not be able to 29purchase from a store to enhance my collection. It just seemed like I was cheating. Ofcourse, this means that it will be a lot harder to acquire stamps fro every country in the world. I will have to depend on my travels as well as the travels of my friends and family, so that each stamp in my collection has a story to tell rather than ‘I bought it in a philately store’.

I wonder which country I will acquire next. Any guesses?

stamp countries #14, #15, #16

I think I’ve mentioned before that since June 2014 I’ve been collecting mint/unused stamps, and my goal is to get at least one stamp from every country in the world. My personal goal for 2015 is to reach 20 countries, and I’m already almost there! One of my mom’s friends went on a cruise to the carribean, and so I asked her if she could be on the lookout for stamps. She brought me back some beautiful ones!

country #16 Mexico ... (and a couple of more French stamps)

country #16 Mexico … (and a couple of more French stamps)

It made my day to be able to add a couple of new countries to my stamp-book 🙂 It was also a bit odd, as she was telling me that she had a hard time finding local stamps – most of the stamps she came across were from America – which I guess makes sense if the ship is American. Either way, I’ve been able to add 3 new countries and 1 new territory to my collection. Is there anything you collect, and you have you set yourself goals in  terms of collecting in 2015?

Vintage postcards and an addition

Hi everyone! 😀

Christmas is in two days, which means that we are visiting family and getting together to celebrate the holidays. While at my grandma’s house the other day I made some discoveries. I opened a drawer in the attic and found a bunch of vintage postcards. I’e been trying to trace their date, but it does not say on the postcards themselves and I haven’t been able to find anything on the internet just yet. I will certainly keep looking though. 18There were all kinds of postcards; buildings and villages, well known people and animal postcards. They look awesome and I can’t wait to use them.

Grandma always gives my brother and I an envelope filled with stamps, which we then carefully  soak in water so the stamps come off the paper. It’s a fun way to do some brother-sister bonding. Anyway, I have recently (August) started a collection of mint stamps, and I am aiming to get stamps from all over the world. In the envelope she gave us we found unused Hungarian stamps from 1986 depicting a castle, which I immediately claimed. Hungary is now country #11 in the collection 🙂

16HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Its been too long!

Hi everyone!
oursIt’s been way too long since I last posted something. Lately I’ve had a ‘healthy obsession’ with stamps. I’ve always had a fascination with the post office and snailmail, but now it has broadened to include stamps as well. So here in France I went to the postoffice, and in my best french I asked for a souvernir sheet with stamps. I really like this one; the way the bears stand on top of one another. Now I just have to buy a book to keep all of them. I brought some stamps back from Australia as well, my collection has started.

Have a lovely day 🙂
